Photo of the Day
This seems to be the only photo I snapped of Congressman Paul Ryan the day I met him with a group of Humphrey Policy Forum fellows on Feb. 3, 2005.
I don’t remember very much of what he said, but I think it likely was about entitlement reform, since much of the trip was devoted to discussions about Social Security reform. It was during that trip that President George W. Bush name-checked our lead fellow, Tim Penny, during a State of the Union address when the president introduced a plan to privatize Social Security.
Whether you agree with him or not, Rep. Ryan was pretty much the single most impressive person–aside from possibly Madeline Albright–that we met on that trip, and we met quite a few. Which I will admit, given that I am a native Wisconsinite, was not displeasing to me.
Somehow, we didn’t get a sit-down with Scooter Libby…
