Congresswoman Reported Killed

According to NPR.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and six others died after a gunman opened fire at a public event on Saturday, the Pima County, Ariz., sheriff’s office confirms.

Jason Pekau, an employee of a Sprint store near the Safeway grocery store where Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot, tells CNN by phone that he sees at least two dead bodies covered in sheets at the scene. He says he heard 15 to 20 shots in rapid succession. He also quotes an unidentified policeman saying that six people were killed in the shooting. Other reports indicate that a suspect was tackled as he tried to run from the scene, and that at least 12 people were shot.

NPR reports Giffords was shot in the head.

Giffords, 40, won election in 2006 as the youngest woman ever elected to the U.S Congress.
